Andreas (Andy) Thomas, B.Comm., J.D.
Born in Germany, Andy was 10 years old when his family emigrated to Canada and settled in Alberta. His father ran a country service station and restaurant where Andy worked after school and on weekends. The family business taught him the value of a personal service and provided him with a solid foundation in running a successful small business.
After completing high school, Andy obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Alberta (1979) gaining further practical experience in the fields of business and accounting.
Andy attended Dalhousie University Law School obtaining his Law Degree in 1982. Besides the basic law courses required of all students, Andy focused on a business related course of studies.
After returning to Alberta to article, Andy joined a small firm in Grand Centre (now Cold Lake) where he continued to practice for 9 years. During that time, he carried on a general practice which included Family Law, General Civil Litigation, Criminal Defence, Real Estate and Mortgages, Corporate and Commercial as well as Wills, Estate Planning and Probate.
In 1993 Andy moved to Parksville and since opening the firm of Thomas & Company in 1996, Andy’s practice has developed a focus on Real Estate, Wills, Estate Planning and Probate as well as Corporate and Commercial law. However, since early 2022, he and the firm no longer handle Real Estate related matters other than those associated with Probate and Estate Administration files handled by the firm.
The experiences gained from his involvement in the family business, his formal schooling and the management of his own firm have all contributed to the successful development of the firm’s business motto:
“The Law” with a personal touch
